Even though Microsoft only produces software, and this is a website built around the development of CPU I felt it was necessary to talk about them. Microsoft is one of the largest companies in the world. They have a true monolpy on the software world, which is why I feel it is important to mention them.

It all started with a high school kid who was really good at math. He even scored an 800 on the math portion of his SAT. That's a perfect score. Who was this kid? Bill Gates.

Bill Gates started to like computers in the eighth grade. That was when his school had access to a computer. Bill Gates wasn't the only one interested in the computer his friend and future business partner Paul Allen was also interested. After this he moved on to high school where he got his amazing SAT math score, and he also started his first company with Paul Traf-O-Data. He then went on to Harvard. There was where the true start happened.

There was a computer named Altair. Bill Gates and Paul Allen dedicated themselves to making a language for this computer. They succeeded in creating the language it was called BASIC because of the success of the language they were hired by a small company named MITS. They then founded Microsoft.

Unfortunately things weren't off to a good start because companies were copying BASIC without paying. After that they went on to create FORTRAN. Then by 1978 they planned to make their third computer language and they made more then a million in sales. In 1983 Microsoft made a mouse for any computer that uses MS-DOS. They also came out with one of the most famous programs ever Microsoft Word.

Twenty-one years later, Microsoft has made billions of dollars and many different types software including Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Publisher. They have made many different mice and keyboards as well. Though Microsoft didn't help improve the computer itself, their software has revolutionized how we use the computer.
